I, myself, am a building enthusiast and have added tons of mods to assist my creativity while building massive environments in game. i agree with the suit in that terraria was made for the player to play how the devs want them to, and that starbound is open to the player determining what kind of game it is for them. I dearly love both starbound and terraria. the time it takes to go from the opening sequence to the end game - if you're really focused - is much less than it takes to kill terraria's end game boss (although equivalent to the length of terraria before it started adding more content). I would say the Starbound story is worth playing through vanila, on single or two player, at least once. While others download hundreds of mods and wonder which one of those hundreds broke their game. Some spend hours making elaborate items like Massive Calculators. Some people spend their entire time only making buildings. You can just sit in one place and make a giant farm if you want. Starbound is more of a game - make a game of how you want to play it. To alleviate it - it lets you hunt for rare weapons and armor through grinding.

Terreriia is a game more focused on how the Developer wants you to play.
